Oceans will have more plastic than fish: WEF report

With the theme of ‘Mastering the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the World Economic Forum’s 46th annual conference began Tuesday at the Swiss ski resort of Davos. Other issues such as terror and inequality will also figure in the debates.
Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is heading the Indian delegation to the conference, which also includes RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan and Bharti Enterprises Chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal. Ahead of the start of the conference, the World Economic Forum and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, with McKinsey & Co. as a knowledge partner, released a new report which forecast that oceans will contain more plastic than fish by 2050, by weight.
Most plastic packaging is used only once as a result of which material worth $80 billion-$120 billion is lost each year, according to the report.
